Connectivity at EDUCAUSE 2006
To help you stay as connected with the outside world as you'd like while you're at EDUCAUSE 2006, we're providing several Internet access options during the conference. Below you'll find information about them, as well as tips for helping us maintain a safe and stable network.

EDUCAUSE 2006 E-Mail Kiosks
In the second level of the Dallas Convention Center, computers will be available for getting conference updates, checking e-mail via the Web or telnet, and limited printing. They will be accessible during registration hours. Sponsored by Gateway, An EDUCAUSE Gold Partner; HP, An EDUCAUSE Gold Partner; Sun Microsystems, Inc., An EDUCAUSE Gold Partner; and AT&T
If You Are Bringing a Laptop
If you will have your laptop with you, you will be able to connect to the EDUCAUSE network via RJ45 connections, available on the second level of the convention center. In addition, 802.11b wireless networking will be provided in all common areas of the convention center (SSID: EDUCAUSEAIR). To help us keep the network strong and stable for everyone, please make sure:
  • Your virus detection software is up-to-date
  • Your computer has the latest software patches installed

EDUCAUSE Network Security Precautions
Please note that if you are connecting to the Internet using the EDUCAUSE kiosks or network, you will be on a public network. It will be supporting many different users and computing platforms, some of which may be infected with undesirable worms and viruses. To keep the network robust, EDUCAUSE has taken the following steps:
  • Network traffic in the convention center will be separated onto different networks to help isolate any potential problems.
  • Some network ports and services known to be used by potentially dangerous applications will be blocked to keep these applications from infecting computers on the network. Blocking these ports may affect certain types of connections back to your campuses.
  • We reserve the right to deny network access to any machine that degrades overall network performance or attempts to spread viruses, worms, Trojan horses, and the like.

PDA Services
Before the conference, you can use the EDUCAUSE Itinerary Builder to create a custom itinerary of the conference events you wish to attend, as well as any personal appointments. You can then download this schedule to your PDA—simply follow the steps on the Itinerary Builder page.

Onsite, the NearSpace Meeting Manager™ will provide up-to-date meeting program information, session guides, maps, and exhibitor information for your PDA, PocketPC, or Java-enabled cell phone. The Meeting Manager will be available via beaming stations located near the conference registration area.

Blogging and Tagging the Conference
Whether contributing or consuming content through blogs, bookmarks, or photo-sharing services (like Flickr), use EDUCAUSE2006 as the tag to find out more about the conference and share ideas. EDUCAUSE members can sign up for a blog at EDUCAUSE Connect to add their thoughts about the conference. In addition, read session summaries, listen to podcast interviews, and more.

Access Conference Happenings Remotely with Webcasts
Tap into conference happenings from the convenience of your own computer. You’ll be able to access Webcasts of selected sessions, including those of Vinton G. Cerf and Georgia Nugent, at the EDUCAUSE 2006 Web site. Sponsored by Sonic Foundry, An EDUCAUSE Bronze Partner.

Aardig wat op een rijtje gezet. Prima. Verder is er nog een FAQ die je kunt raadplegen. Ook erg handig.
